I don't know why "Fukubukuro" tradition has been continued until now. I think it's a strange tradition, because I don't wanna buy one which I don't know what's inside.
Fukubukuro is similar to grab bag. It's filled with unknown (and somewhat mysterious) items randomly. Of course it's discounted, but actually I don't like it. I wanna buy one which I really want even if it's expensive.
In my opinion, buying Fukubukuro is like a New Year's first trial of one's fortune, so it's not shopping but gamble. That's why I don't like it.
I left Akihabara and went to Ueno. It's completely aimless. Just strolling. I know I ended up wasting my time and money, but it's not so bad. I did I really wanted to do. Better than buying Fukubukuro and end up with a load of unwanted things. Just strolling, I'm happy with that.
I am with you on the fukubukuro. We had them of candy in Canada when I was a child, but at least you knew you were getting candy!

あけましておめでとうございます。 Of course I know the items inside fukubukuro is basically electric appliances because it's Akihabara, but I don't want a cutting-edge hair drier or stuff like that. It's a true waste of money.

ReplyDeleteI like mystery and surprise so I am sure I would purchase fukubukuro. Sometimes on websites that I shop at they offer grab bags and I get them. I love surprises I guess. And if I get one thing that I don't like very much I can always regift it to someone who would enjoy it.
I bought some PC parts at Akihabara, and ate soba noodle at Ueno.
DeleteMy friend said almost the same thing about fukubukuro. He said, "If you don't want it, just regift it to me or someone else. You don't know how to have fun with Fukubukuro." I think he might be right.
Maybe next year you can find an inexpensive Fukubukuro to have fun with. :)
